The lifestyle changes have resulted in an outbreak of obesity problem facing a large proportion of people. For those people who are not able to restore their normal weight through diet control and exercise regime, diet pills have emerged as a popular and widely advertised solution to get rid of the excess fat. Various types of diet pills have different functions; a particular type of diet pill might work well for a person and might not for another one. The working of such weight loss supplements depends on body types and it is important for person who intends to use these pills to be well aware of the different available varieties. Largely, diet pills can be categorized into 3 types:
Calorie burners – Such diet pills are composed of stimulants which temporarily boost the body metabolism and makes one lose more calories. They are often associated with side effects like increase in blood pressure, heart rate and anxiety. The common active ingredients of calorie burners are green tea, caffeine, guarana or ephedra. Out of these ephedra or ma huang is the more dangerous and “natural herbal” option.
Appetite Suppressants – such diet pills contain some of the calorie burning stimulants in combination with Citrimax (fruit obtained from garcinia cambogia) and CLA (or Conjugated Linoleic Acid). Certain studies have favored Citrimax as a safe option and it has been seen to avoid regaining the lost weight. CLA is also safe, but may or may not help as much. The prescription weight loss pills such as Phen-Phen, Redux, Buproprion, Meridia are all appetite suppressants; however, they might have serious side effects like heart valve damage. As a general observation and experience, such pills show noticeable and considerable weight loss results over a period of six months. A clinical study suggests that if the user does not lose at 4 pounds over 4 weeks of taking the diet pill, they are less likely to have any significant results from using it in future.
Absorption Blockers – Such pills act by blocking the intestinal function of absorbing fats (called Chitosan) or carbohydrates (called Carbo Blockers). In simple words, whatever is ingested is thrown out of the body. Carbo Blockers have white kidney beans or soybeans as their constituent, which are safe to consume. However, the argument remains that if these pills eliminate the fat from the body, they would also throw out the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K in the process. Loss of minerals like zinc and copper has also been seen in various studies.
It is better to take your physician’s advice before you choose any of the above options. However, irrespective of the selected diet pill category, you need to couple it with a healthy diet and regular exercise routine. Weight loss is not as easy and quick as the manufacturers and advertisers claim. So it is important to be cautious when you decide to pick any of these options to lose weight.
In my opinion, appetite supressors are by far the better option when it comes to weight loss. Seriously, I hate that feeling when you are hungry – it’s clearly what makes most people fill up on snack foods and the like.
I havent ever tried appetite suppressors in pill form, but i would imagine that they are just as effective as that in powder form.
Im going to give these a try.
Hey Rachel – just to add to your comment, I wanted to say that I have tried appetite suppressors in pill form, and they are just as good as the powder versions.
