Smart Beauty Tips: Hair Coloring

Need you hair colored, but you do not have time to go to a salon to have it done? Color your hair at home, it will save you money and you can color it in half the time a salon will take. Just follow these easy steps and you will have the color you want in less then an hour.

Finding the right color

At home color kits are easy to follow, just remember at home kits are mainly to change your hair color a shade or two different, if you want to make a dramatic change you will need to go to a salon. To find the right color, look on the box and match your color to a shade on the box, and see if that particular color will give you the shade you want.

Prep your hair

A few days before coloring, use a good deep-conditioner to strengthen and add moisture to your hair, which will help to absorb the color better. Wash your hair the day before coloring.

Products needed

Gather all the products you will need. Hair color, towel comb, hair clips and a timer, petroleum jelly (to keep your skin around your hair line from being stained), and an old shirt to wear while coloring your hair. Read the instructions that came with your hair color kit prior to coloring your hair; make sure to mix chemicals correctly and wear the plastic gloves provided to prevent from staining your hands.

Getting started

Rub a little petroleum jelly around hairline to keep your skin from staining. Divide hair into sections, start by combing down the center and then from side to side, you should end up with four sections, use hair clips to pin up hair.

Put on your gloves; mix your color as instructed. Start at the roots – apply color from the roots to the end, do this with each section. Set the timer according to the instructions, be sure to leave color on for at least the time indicated or you may not get the shade desired. When the timer goes off; rinse hair and shampoo, use conditioner provided in kit to help seal in your color.

Last step

Comb out hair and dry, hair may be a different shade when wet.
