When most people exercise they think of the great physical benefits such as weight loss, stronger bones, joints and muscles. The fact that the aging process may just be slowed down a little bit. What most people forget and may be one of the greatest benefits of exercising is the emotional and mental health and well being. Physical and emotional/mental health is linked very closely together. When you strengthen your bones and muscles you are also strengthening your mental well being.

We live in a world that is extremely fast paced. From cell phones to the internet to twittering we are never out of touch with our school or job responsibilities. We are forced to do ten things at once and multi tasking just becomes a way of life. We seem to forget that to improve our mind and keep ourselves from getting ill we need time to distress and reenergize ourselves.

Our extremely busy lives can affect people in so many ways. There is more depression than ever before. In our “fix it fast” world this problem is usually fixed by some sort of pill. This is just a band aid that masks the symptoms but does not truly fix the problem. One way to counter act and possibly prevent the disease from happening in the first place is proper exercise.

It is a scientific fact that feel good natural chemicals such as dopamine are released when one exercises. These natural chemicals help to regulate emotions and dispel stress. Running, swimming or biking all help us to get back in touch with ourselves. We begin to feel calm again and ready to tackle the pressures of the day.

Another positive aspect of exercise is all of the oxygen rich blood that is being pumped around our body. This benefits every part of our body from a single cell to our brain. If you feel down in the dumps try going for a short jog and you will be amazed at how much better you feel.

Another great benefit of exercise is it costs nothing and the benefits are huge. Put some sweat equity into yourself and watch as your investment goes through the roof in terms of emotional and physical well-being.
